Kinder Morgan, Staten Island, NY
American Metal Wall System© with Seamless Polyurea Liner
Kinder Morgan's Staten Island Terminal has secondary containments for all the terminal tanks—but the pipes shown on this page were outside of the berms. If there would have been a leak or spill within this area there would have been no way of containing the fuel.
Kinder Morgan looking for a long-term solution for this pipe area considered using HDPE Liners, Clay Max Systems, MPC Liners, or Polyurea Liners. American Coating Technologies LLC (ACT©) provides service for all the above secondary containment systems and additionally the American Metal Wall System with Seamless Polyurea Liner.
Kinder Morgan selected ACT's American Metal Wall System with Seamless Polyurea Liner. The decision to use this system rather then the others were primarily two reasons.
The Polyurea liner would be installed seamless unlike the HDPE liner—Kinder Morgan, Staten Island experienced many leaks and yearly repairs with the HDPE liner.
American Metal Wall System© did not require the stone berm that was required for the Clay Max System.
The American Metal Wall System was custom designed to fit around all bollards and concrete pads. The metal wall of the system was further reinforced with pipes placed into concrete piers. A 16oz Geo Textile Liner was placed over the stone and attached to the metal wall, then the entire containment was sprayed with 70 Mil of Polyurea to form a seamless liner. American Metal Wall System© with Seamless Polyurea Liner has a ten (10) year warranty for all material and labor.
